Bath Chess Club provide a formal setting for competitive match play. We have several teams participating in both the Bristol League and the Somerset League. Each team is organised by a dedicated captain.
We also annually run several internal competitions for members.
  • Club Championship – Several round ‘Swiss’ competition open to all.
  • Challengers Tournament – A competition for newcomers and ‘improvers’ to introduce people to competitive chess for the first time. A number of ‘all play all’ groups leading to a second phase to determine the overall winner.
  • Summer Tournament – Short tournament for all held over the summer with small ‘all play all’ groups of players of roughly equal strength.
We periodically hold organised Blitz Nights with competition over several rounds and fast time controls.
We also host social chess nights weekly, where people can play in a more leisurely way in a more relaxed environment. Social chess normally has a host who will welcome newcomers, oversee the evening, and resolve any difficulties.
